Why are we still gaining weight? Part 1

Image
Maybe it's just me but I find it hard to believe that anyone today would not know "how" to lose weight.  It's everywhere!  Talk about TMI and information overload, it's on the internet, magazines, TV, news, everyday conversations, the water cooler, book shelves, even some restaurant menus tell us how to lose weight. Do people today know which foods are bad for them?  Unless they are living under a rock or are a yet-to-be-discovered tribe deep in the jungle of Siberia,  then yes, we know.  (maybe what I really need is more information on world geography) Are we overloaded?  Are we confused?  Yes to that as well.  Do we like what we know about losing weight?  NO!  No we don't.  It's a total kill-joy.  Cut out all the foods you love and work your ass off at the gym till Trump changes his hairstyle.  It Sucks, just like Trump's hair.  Its very uncomfortable (like looking at Trump's hair).  And kind of like sitting on...

Coca-Cola works like Heroin?

Image
Did you know that originally, Coke was made with cocaine?  (Yep, see full article from SNOPES ) Well, now they've figured out that apparently, it doesn't need cocaine anyway.  It mimics the highs people get from heroin.  Who knew?  Hopefully not the Coke company because we all know how addictive heroine can be and it would be awful if they did it on purpose. But here is basically what the Medical News Today article states:  Five minutes after consumption, production of dopamine has increased - a neurotransmitter that helps control the pleasure and reward centers of the brain. Coca-Cola stimulates these centers comparably to heroin, making us want another can.  Hmmmm, sounds like addiction to me. Here's something else.  We all know its high in sugar and that isn't good for our blood levels or obesity or teeth but get this; and I quote, " According to Naik, the intense sweetness of Coca-Cola as a result of its high sugar content should mak...

Is BPA safe?

Image
No one knows. Well, no one agrees. And I am sick of it. Are you kidding me? There are studies concluding it is safe and studies concluding that it contributes to obesity, neurological problems, heart disease, etc. and the sides can't agree. With the increase in obesity and these other issues, why keep arguing. I'll tell you why, because the manufacturers of BPS don't want to loose that revenue. It's just like the tobacco industry. In a few years we will be watching a block-buster movie on how the chemical industry covered up conclusive studies complete with "top-secret" emails and texts. Why wait? Stop consuming products made with BPA. Buy dried beans instead of canned or frozen corn instead of canned, fresh tomatoes or products stored in BPA-free containers. If enough of us stop buying products with BPA, those companies will have to stop using it. Of course then we risk the possibility that they will replace it with another chemical that also causes problems....

Dangers of Fructose

Image
Need another reason to complain about high fructose corn syrup? Here it is: According to Duke University Medical Center, HFCS is now associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. "What?!" you say. Yes, the mechanism for fructose metabolism requires ATP. APT is a critical molecule that provides liver cells with energy. High fructose consumption increases the risk of depleting the liver’s supply of ATP. (By high fructose consumption, I am actually referring to all fructose including that found in fruit and fruit juices, table sugar and mostly fructose contained in sweetened beverages.) Chronic high consumption of fructose, especially in those who are obese and/or have diabetes takes a great toll on the liver. Without the energy the liver needs, inflammation and scarring can occur. This can lead to cirrhosis even in the absence of alcohol. Compound that with obesity which often results in insulin resistance, and now you have a double whammy.   Bottom line, exc...

Now tell us something we don't know

Image
I hate to be a smart_ _ _ but really. Here is my favorite headline for today, "Optimal Nutrition,Physical Activity Recommended After Cancer Diagnosis". Duh! Let's see, here is a list of some of the foods that help prevent cancer (scientific studies back this up, if you want links let me know). blueberries strawberries fish spinach broccoli green tea oranges flax seed carrots whole wheat brown rice asparagus Now I ask you...does this list contain french fries? NO. Does this list contain candy? NO. Does this list contain a big, fat steak? NO. And no butter, no bacon, no Coke, no frosted cup cakes, no refined pasta. Maybe the headline is a last-ditch effort to get people to understand how important good nutrition and physical activity are to health. But come on if you don't already know this you are living in the dark ages. Face it folks, Healthy food makes you healthy. Unhealthy food makes you unhealthy. Use it or lose it. I'm referring to your body and your life. G...
